Japanese: 訳文筌蹄 - やくぶんせんてい

A language textbook from the mid-Edo period. The first part consists of six volumes and six books, and the second part consists of three volumes and three books. Written by Ogyu Sorai. The first part was published in 1714-15 (the 4th-5th year of the Shotoku era), and the second part in 1796 ( the 8th year of the Kansei era). It lists real and virtual words in classical Chinese, and explains the differences in their meanings and usage. Examples are included. Along with Ito Togai's "Yojikaku" and "Sogu Jiketsu," it is one of the most important works of modern dictionary of characters. The second part was supplemented by Takezato Sanjin, who wrote down Ogyu Sorai's dictations. It contains 1,675 characters.

江戸中期の語学書。初編六巻六冊、後編三巻三冊。荻生徂徠著。初編正徳四～五年（一七一四‐一五）、後編寛政八年（一七九六）刊。漢文の実詞・虚詞を列挙し、その語義、用法の差異を解説したもの。用例を付す。伊藤東涯の「用字格」「操觚字訣」とともに近世の字書として屈指の業績の一つ。後編は、竹里散人が荻生徂徠の口述を書きとどめて増補したもの。収録字数一六七五字。
