Kanada (English spelling)

An Indian thinker. Also known as Kaabhuj, Kaabaka (all meaning "grain eater") and Aulukya (meaning "owl"). He is said to be the founder of the Indian Vaisheshika school, and is also said to have compiled the Vaisheshika Sutra (the extant version was written around 100-200 AD), the fundamental scripture of this school. He advocated pluralistic realism, and had a great influence on the argumentation of the Nyaya school.

インドの思想家。別名カナブジュKaabhuj、カナバクシャKaabaka（いずれも「穀粒を食う者」の意）、ウルーカAulukya（「フクロウ」の意）。インドのバイシェーシカ学派の開祖であると伝えられ、また、この学派の根本経典である『バイシェーシカ・スートラ』（現存のものは西暦100～200年ころの成立）を編んだとされている。多元的実在論を主張し、ニヤーヤ学派の論証学にも大きな影響を与えた。
