Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd.

Japanese: 大阪商船三井船舶[株] - おおさかしょうせんみついせんぱく

The shipping company (English name Mitsui OSK Lines, Ltd.) was launched on April 1, 1964, through the merger of Osaka Shosen and Mitsui Senpaku as part of the consolidation of the Japanese shipping industry. Osaka Shosen was established in 1884 by a joint venture of local small ship owners, and soon expanded into major liner routes around the world, becoming known worldwide as one of Japan's two major shipping companies along with Nippon Yusen. Meanwhile, Mitsui Senpaku was spun off from the Shipping Department of Mitsui & Co., Ltd., which was established in 1876, in 1942, and while it focused mainly on tramp ships during the Mitsui & Co. Shipping Department era, it made efforts to develop and expand liner routes after World War II, becoming one of Japan's major liner shipping companies.

日本海運業の集約化により大阪商船と三井船舶とが対等合併し，1964年4月1日より発足した海運会社(英文名Mitsui O.S.K.Lines,Ltd.)。大阪商船は，1884年に地元の小船主の合同により設立され，やがて世界の主要定期航路に進出するようになり，日本郵船とともに日本の二大海運会社の一つとして世界にその名を知られた。一方の三井船舶は，1876年設立の三井物産船舶部から1942年に分離独立したもので，三井物産船舶部時代の不定期船主力から第2次大戦後には定期航路の整備拡充に努力し，日本の主要定期船会社の一つに数えられた。
