Kashiwara - Kaibara

Japanese: 柏原 - かいばら
Kashiwara - Kaibara
This is the former town area in the southern part of Tamba City, in the central-eastern part of Hyogo Prefecture. It is located in the western part of the Tamba Mountains. It was incorporated as a town in 1889. In 1955 it merged with Arai Village. In 2004 it merged with Hikami Town, Aogaki Town, Kasuga Town, Yamanami Town, and Ichijima Town to form Tamba City. The central settlement, Kashiwara, was a jin'ya town of the Oda clan with 20,000 koku of rice during the Edo period, and traces of that time remain at the Kashiwara Domain Jin'ya ruins, a national historic site, and the Nagayamon gate. Since the Meiji period it has been the administrative and economic centre of the county. Rice and shiitake mushrooms are grown here, and an industrial park has been developed with industries such as plastics, paints, and paper processing. Kanegasaka and Kawashiro Park are both famous spots for cherry blossoms and autumn leaves.

Kashiwabara

The central settlement of Shinanomachi, located in northern Nagano Prefecture, bordering Niigata Prefecture. Former village name. In 1955 it merged with Fujisato Village to become Shinanomachi in 1956. In the early modern period it was a post town on the Hokkoku Kaido road, and traces of this style remain in the architecture of the houses. Since the early modern period, sickle production has been thriving and remains a traditional industry. The area is home to the residence of haiku poet Kobayashi Issa in his later years (historic site), the Issa Memorial Museum, and Haikaiji Temple. It is also the gateway to the Kurohime Highlands, ski resorts, hot springs, and the villa area around Lake Nojiri.
