A small annual weed of the Scrophulariaceae family that grows in moist fields and roadsides. The stems and leaves are soft and slightly fleshy. The plant is entirely glabrous. The stems are erect or branch at the base and grow obliquely upward, 5-20 cm tall. The leaves are opposite, elliptical, stalkless, rounded at the tip, and not sawtoothed. They are 15-25 mm long, 6-10 mm wide, and have 3-5 palmate veins. From summer to autumn, one flower appears on each side of the leaf at the top of the stem. The flowers are labiate, reddish purple, and 5 mm long. There are four stamens, and the two lower filaments have club-shaped projections at the base. When an insect touches these, the anthers move and scatter the pollen.

田畑や道端の湿った土地に生えるゴマノハグサ科の一年生の小さな雑草。茎や葉は柔らかでやや肉質。全体無毛。茎は直立するか根ぎわで分枝して斜上し，高さ5～20cm。葉は対生し，楕円形で柄がなく，先は円く鋸歯はない。長さ15～25mm，幅6～10mm，3～5本の掌状脈がある。夏から秋にかけて茎の上部にある葉のわきごとに1花をつける。花は唇形，紅紫色で長さ5mm。おしべは4本，下側の2本の花糸の基部に棍棒状の突起があり，これに虫が触れると葯が動き花粉を散らす。
