Carnivora, Viverridae. Body length 67-80cm. It has a sturdy body and is the largest of all civets. It has long, rough, and bristly fur. The base color of its body is gray or dull yellow with white or dull yellow spots or stripes. During the day, it stays in dense undergrowth or in holes dug by other animals such as aardvarks. Its scent glands are well developed, and it releases a foul odor to indicate its home range. It is found in southern Africa, from Senegal through the central part to Somalia, and mainly lives in the savannas, but sometimes in dense forests. (→ Civet )
