A representative French author of the final period of the Hundred Years' War. From a young age, he served at the court of Yolande d'Aragon and became a personal attendant to the future King of France, Charles VII. After graduating from the University of Paris, he followed the Dauphin to Paris when the Burgundians seized control of the city on September 16, 1418, and served as secretary to the "King of Bourges" (Charles VII's nickname) for ten years. He served as the king's envoy to the Holy Roman Empire, the Republic of Venice, the Kingdom of Scotland, and other places, preventing foreign intervention in the civil war and maintaining the balance of power. At home, he published a series of propaganda articles in Latin defending the new king's position.

百年戦争末期を代表するフランスの作家。若き時代からヨーランド･ダラゴンの宮廷に出仕し，のちのフランス王シャルル7世の近習となった。パリ大学で学士となったのち，1418年9月16日のブルゴーニュ派パリ制圧の際に，王太子の後を追ってパリを脱出，その後10年間，〈ブールジュの王〉(シャルル7世のあだ名)の秘書官を務め，神聖ローマ帝国，ベネチア共和国，スコットランド王国などへ，王の使者として赴き，内乱への外国の介入を防ぎ，力の均衡をはかるかたわら，国内に向けては，新王の立場を擁護するプロパガンダ論文をラテン語で逐次発表した。
