Pardosa astrigera (English name)

Japanese: ウヅキコモリグモ(英語表記)Pardosa astrigera
Pardosa astrigera (English name)
Order Arachnida, Family Wolf Spider. Females are 8-10mm long, males 6-8mm long. The cephalothorax is blackish brown with a wide gray-brown band in the middle, and the abdomen and walking legs are a complex mix of brown, yellowish brown, and black. They wander around on the ground to catch insects. Adults can be found all year round, but they lay eggs mainly in spring and autumn. The egg sacs are flat and spherical, and are carried around on a silk wart. When the baby spiders emerge from the egg sacs, they spend several days riding on the parent's abdomen. They are found in plains all over Japan, and are most commonly seen from urban areas to suburban areas. They are often seen around April, so they are called "Uzuki" (the month of April). (→ Wolf spider )
