...However, it was not until the 19th century that a national literature was established; until then, it was thought that it was impossible to write works in the inferior Slovene language. In the 18th century, Enlightenment literature became popular among the Slovenes and Croats in the Habsburg Empire, and they were represented by Anton Tomaž Linhart (1756-95) and Tito Brezovački (1757-1805), respectively. Among the Serbs, Obradovic was prominent.
