A medical scientist and contributor to professional baseball. Born in Tokyo as the eldest son of Uchimura Kanzo. While a student at First Higher School and Tokyo Imperial University, he made a name for himself as a left-handed fastball pitcher. He graduated from the University of Tokyo's Faculty of Medicine in 1923 (Taisho 12). As a psychiatrist, he is well known for introducing Kretschmer and for his research into the brains of outstanding individuals. He served as the third commissioner of professional baseball from 1962 (Showa 37) to 1965, and contributed greatly to the development of professional baseball. He is particularly known for publishing the Official Baseball Guide and implementing a training system for new players. He is a member of the Japan Academy. He served as a professor emeritus at the University of Tokyo and director of the Institute of Neuroscience.
