Know Your Money

…Counterfeiting has been rampant in the United States since the country opened up, and in the 1930s, counterfeit bills worth nearly a million dollars appeared on the market, despite the use of fine-grain engraving machines developed to prevent counterfeiting. In response, the Secret Service, headed by FJ Wilson, began a campaign to identify counterfeit bills in 1937, and eventually developed this into a major educational campaign called "Know Your Money." This had a major effect, and it is said that the amount of counterfeit money in circulation had decreased by about one-third within two years. …
