…There are several medical papyri that directly show ancient Egyptian medicine, all of which have been completely deciphered. The oldest is the Kahun Papyrus (c. 20th century BC), which deals with obstetrics, gynecology, and veterinary medicine; the Edwin Smith Papyrus (c. 14th century BC) deals with surgery; the Ebers (17th century BC), Hurst (16th century BC), and Greater Berlin (14th century BC) papyri deal with formularies; and the London papyrus (14th century BC) deals with incantations. Some are almost entirely free of mystical embellishments, while others have strong magical and religious overtones. …
