A plane curve that goes around a single point is called a vortex, helix, or spiral. It is expressed in polar coordinates ( r , θ). (1) r = a θ is called a normal vortex or Archimedes spiral, (2) r = a /θ is called a reciprocal vortex, and (3) r = ae b θ is called a logarithmic spiral or equiangular spiral.
