A type of game. Players throw rings made of metal, wood, or hemp rope at poles or posts placed at a set distance apart, competing to see who can get the most rings into the poles or posts. It has a long history, dating back to ancient Greece when it was played as a sport, and was introduced to Japan during the Meiji period, but is mainly played as a children's game. In England, it was a popular game in izakayas, and is still played today as a deck game on ship voyages.
