...The newly appointed Supreme Commander Kornilov, after reinstating the death penalty on the front lines, aimed to reinstate it in the rear against disobedients (those who did not follow orders) and was prepared to establish a military dictatorship. On August 25, Kornilov ignored Kerensky's concessions and ordered General Aleksandr M. Krymov (1871-1917) to advance on the capital. Four Cadet ministers in the government expressed their support for Kornilov and resigned.
