Eddy current loss

...Eddy currents are also called Foucault currents because J. B. Foucault (1855) demonstrated in an experiment that a rotating electrically conductive disk in a strong magnetic field experiences a strong braking force. This phenomenon is used in AC wattmeters and electromagnetic brakes. Generally, the Joule heat generated by eddy currents results in power loss, which is called eddy current loss (or eddy current loss). To avoid eddy current loss, the iron cores of AC generators, AC motors, transformers, etc. are made by stacking thin magnetic steel plates that are insulated from each other.
