The northeastern region of the Peloponnese in ancient Greece, including Argos, Mycenae, Tiryns, Epidaurus, Troezen, etc. It became the flourishing center of the Mycenaean civilization, and from around 1100 BC the Dorians invaded and ruled, with the polis (city-state) of Argos becoming the most powerful, but they never came to control the entire region of Argos.

Today, Argos is a prefecture in southern Greece, with an area of ​​2,214 km2 and a population of 93,020 (1981). The prefecture capital, Nafplio, has a population of 10,609 (1981). It is an agricultural region, producing olives, grapes, cotton, and tobacco.

Amphitheater of Epidaurus
An outdoor theater built in the 4th century BC. The stage is about 20m in diameter, and the seating is built on the slope of the hill. 古代ギリシアにおけるペロポネソス半島北東部の地域。アルゴス、ミケーネ、ティリンス、エピダウロス、トロイゼンなどを含んだ。ミケーネ文明の繁栄する中心地となり、紀元前1100年ごろからドーリア人が侵入、支配し、ポリス(都市国家)のアルゴスがもっとも有力になったが、アルゴリス全域のアルゴス領化には至らなかった。

 今日のアルゴリスはギリシア南部の県で、面積2214平方キロメートル、人口9万3020(1981)。県都ナフプリオンNávplionは人口1万0609(1981)。農業地帯で、オリーブ、ブドウ、綿花、タバコなどを産する。
