Fish Town - Uomachi

Japanese: 魚町 - うおまち
Fish Town - Uomachi

... However, this fish market developed after the rise of cities in the Edo period. Fushimi had Uoyacho (Fushimi Ward) around the time of the castle's construction, and Kyoto had Uotanacho (Shimogyo Ward, Shimoutana-dori Abura-koji Nishiiri) around 1637 (Kan'ei 14). Most of the towns in cities with names such as Sakanamachi, Uomachi, or Uoyacho were places where fish markets once existed. In addition, Nishiki-koji Fish Market has been famous since the early modern period and continues to be famous today, but the date of its establishment is unknown.
