Ibn Bājja

A philosopher in the Western Islamic world. He also served as a vizier (victim) of the Almoravid dynasty. His Latin name was Avem(n)pace. He was born in Zaragoza, Spain. It is said that while he was a vizier of the Almoravid dynasty, he was assassinated at a young age by his enemies in Fez, Morocco. His philosophical treatises, such as "The Guidance of the Solitary" and "The Goal of Man," remain incomplete. In the history of Islamic philosophy, he is noted for being the person who, prior to Ibn Rushd, advocated the "monopoly of the intellect."

西方イスラム世界の哲学者。同時に，ムラービト朝のワジール(宰相)としても活躍した。ラテン名ではアベンパケAvem(n)pace。スペインのサラゴサに生まれた。ムラービト朝のワジールであったとき，敵対者たちの手により，モロッコのフェスで若くして暗殺されたと伝えられている。《孤独者の嚮導》《人間の目標》等の哲学論文は未完のままで残されている。イスラム哲学史においては，イブン･ルシュドに先駆け，〈知性唯一説〉を唱えた人として注目される。
