Whiskey - Whisky

...Under Japan's Liquor Tax Act, sake is defined as "a beverage with an alcohol content of 1% or more by volume," and not only liquids but also powdered substances in which alcohol molecules are wrapped in sugar are considered to be alcohol. However, substances that cannot be served as recreational beverages, such as miso and soy sauce, even if they contain more than 1% alcohol, are excluded from the definition of alcohol.
[Types of alcohol]
Based on the manufacturing method, alcoholic beverages are classified into three types: brewed alcoholic beverages, distilled alcoholic beverages, and mixed alcoholic beverages. However, under Japan's Liquor Tax Law, alcoholic beverages are classified into ten types: sake, synthetic sake, shochu, mirin, beer, fruit liquors, whiskey, spirits, liqueurs, and miscellaneous alcoholic beverages. The name of the type under the Liquor Tax Law must be displayed on the product.
