Tosotsuten

Japanese:
Tosotsuten

One of the heavens in the Buddhist worldview. It is a transliteration of the Sanskrit Tuita, and is also written as Tosatsu or Toshita. The free translation is Kisoku (meaning that the gods are satisfied there). It is located in the sky above Mount Sumeru, in the Yama Heaven, and is considered one of the six heavens in the world of desire (Rokuyokuten), where beautiful landscapes, celestial maidens, and children exist. This heaven is famous as a place where bodhisattvas (future Buddhas) wait to descend to the lower world, and it is said that Shaka has already descended there, and Maitreya is currently waiting. As faith in Maitreya developed, the idea of rebirth in Tushita Heaven arose, and the question of whether this was superior to rebirth in the Pure Land of Amida Buddha was contested, but the fact that Tushita Heaven is a world within the realm of desire was attacked.
