Japanese: モッ（英語表記）mŏt

A word that expresses aesthetic sense and values in Korea. There is no clear definition and it varies from person to person. It can also be seen as an ideal concept in various fields of art. Like the Japanese concepts of "iki" and "wabi" and the French concept of "esprit," it is a word that symbolizes unique culture. Mot is first and foremost a "cool" (a refined appearance) in terms of beauty of form and expression, and is sought in subtle changes that deviate from the norm and escape monotony and blandness. Mot is felt not in stillness but in flowing and rhythmic beauty, in curvaceous beauty among lines, in distorted shapes, eccentricity, and humor, in a playful mood, and in a state of mindless excitement.

朝鮮における美意識，価値観を表す語。明確な定義はなく人によって異なる。芸術の諸分野における理想的概念としてもとらえられる。日本の〈いき〉〈わび〉やフランスの〈エスプリ〉などと同様，固有文化を象徴する語。モッはまず形や表現の美において〈かっこういい〉こと(粋な姿態)があげられ，規格から逸脱し，単調･無味から脱した微妙な変化に求められる。静止の美ではなく流･律動の美，線の中でも曲線美において，歪形，奇抜，諧謔において，遊戯の気分，興に乗る無心の状態からモッは感じられる。
