A mid-ranking official from the late 7th century to the early 8th century. His name can also be written as Sukubi or Kohito. During the Jinshin War (672), he served as General of Yamato-kyo, Otomo no Fukiage, on the side of Prince Oama (later Emperor Tenmu), and defended the ancient capital of Asuka. In January of the 9th year of Tenmu's reign, he was given the higher surname Imbe no Sukune, from Imbe no Sukune, and he expressed his joy along with his younger brother Shikifura, and in December of the 13th year, he was further given the surname Imbe no Sukune. During this time, in March of the 10th year of the Shonen-no-chu period, he was ordered by decree to write and stipulate the Imperial Chronicles and various ancient events together with Prince Kawashima and others, and Kohibi himself wrote the records. In March of the 2nd year of Taiho (702), he was promoted from Junior Fifth Rank Lower to Junior Fifth Rank Upper, and in November of the 1st year of Keiun (704), he presented mirrors and brocades as a dedication envoy to Ise Shrine. He later served as Izumo no Kami, and at the time of his death was a disbanded rank, Junior Fourth Rank Upper.

7世紀後半から8世紀初頭の中級官僚。名は首や子人とも書く。壬申の乱(672)では大海人皇子(のちの天武天皇)方の倭京将軍大伴吹負に属し,飛鳥の古京を守った。天武9年1月に忌部首から忌部連へと上位の姓を賜ったので,弟の色弗と共に悦びの言上をし,13年12月にはさらに忌部宿禰の姓を賜った。この間の10年3月小錦中のとき,詔によって川島皇子らと共に,帝紀および上古の諸事を記し定めたが,子首は自ら筆を執って録した。大宝2(702)年3月従五位下から従五位上,慶雲1(704)年11月伊勢神宮への奉幣使として鏡や錦を献じた。のち出雲守を経て,死去時は散位,従四位上。
