Okinajima

Japanese: 翁島 - おきなじま

A small island in the northwest corner of Lake Inawashiro in central Fukushima Prefecture. It belongs to Inawashiro Town, Yama District. It is an uninhabited island with an area of about 7 ha and a circumference of about 1.3 km. Like the hilly area on the opposite shore, it is part of a mudflow hill (Okinashima mudflow) that is thought to have flowed down from the north in ancient times, and there are a few similar shallow areas with small undulations on the lake bottom nearby. The highest point is 536 m above sea level, with a relative height of 22 m above the lake surface, but the area is generally gentle and densely populated by alder and red pine trees. The opposite shore was Okinashima Village until it was merged with Inawashiro Town in 1955, and Okinashima Port (Nagahama Port) is the base for tourism at Lake Inawashiro.

福島県中部，猪苗代湖北西隅にある小島。耶麻郡猪苗代町に属する。面積約7ha，周囲約1.3kmの小島で，現在は無人島。対岸の丘陵地域と同じく，古い時代に北部から流下したと推定される泥流丘陵(翁島泥流)の一部であり，付近の湖底にも類似の小起伏の浅瀬が二，三みられる。最高点は標高536mで湖面より22mの比高をもつが，全体はなだらかで，ハンノキやアカマツなどが密生している。対岸は1955年猪苗代町と合併するまでの翁島村にあたり，翁島港(長浜港)が猪苗代湖観光の基地となっている。
