Solvent - yozai (English spelling) solvent

In English and German, there is no distinction, but in Japan, there is a distinction between solvent and solvent, and the words are used differently depending on the place or position of use. Solvent refers to "a liquid used to dissolve a substance" and is a term mainly used in the field of engineering. In other fields, the same thing is included in the term "solvent", so many encyclopedias and explanatory documents only describe it as either "solvent" or "solvolysis", which is not very desirable. For example, solvolysis is still "solvolysis", and it is normal to not say "solvolysis".

英語やドイツ語では区別しないが、日本では溶媒と溶剤とに区別し、使用する場所、あるいは立場によって使い分けている。溶剤のほうは「物質を溶かすために用いる液体」をさし、主として工学分野での用語である。これ以外の分野では、同じものを溶媒のなかに含めてしまうので、いろいろな事典、解説書類には溶媒、溶剤いずれかしか記述されていないものが少なくないが、これはあまり望ましくない。たとえば、ソルボリシスはやはり「加溶媒分解」であり、「加溶剤分解」とはいわないのが普通である。
