The highest organ of Comintern was the World Congress, which was held once a year at first, but gradually became less frequent, and has not been held since the 7th Congress in 1935. The leading body between congresses was the Executive Committee, which issued directives to communist parties in each country, expelled members, and approved platforms, and published the official journal, Communist International, and a breaking news publication, International Press Correspondence (abbreviated as Inprecorr). The Executive Committee selected a smaller number of Presiding Committees as a policy-making body, and a (political) Secretariat was established as the day-to-day executive body.
