...It is within the former Ushigome Ward, and in the early modern period, there were many feudal lords' and samurai residences and temples. After the Meiji era, the site of the Owari clan's upper residence was used as the site of the Military Academy, the Imperial General Headquarters Army Department, the Ministry of the Army, and the General Staff Headquarters. After World War II, it was the site of the International Military Tribunal for the Far East, and is now the Ichigaya Garrison of the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force, occupying the Ichigaya Honmuracho area. Ichigaya-yacho (later Daicho) was the site of Ichigaya Prison (1875-1910), and Tokyo Prison (1903-37, later Ichigaya Prison) was located in Ichigaya Tomihisacho, next to the southwest. There are many printing and publishing businesses, including Dai Nippon Printing. ...
