…Fleeing the revolution, he transferred to Rostov University and Sofia University, and in 1922 became a professor at the University of Vienna. He was one of the central figures of the Prague School of Linguistics, and established the direction of Prague School of Linguistics phonology with his Anleitung zu Phonologischen Beschreibungen (Guide to Phonological Description) (1935) and Catechesis of Phonology (Grundzüge der Phonologie) (1939). In 1936, he published an academic journal article entitled “An Attempt at a Theory of Phonological Conflict,” in which he sought a theory to grasp the “conflict,” and this became his theoretical theme in his later years. …
