Hikayat Aceh (English spelling)

Japanese: ヒカヤット･アチェ（英語表記）Hikayat Aceh

This chronicle was compiled during the reign of Sultan Iskandar Muda (1607-36) in Aceh, on the northern tip of Sumatra, Indonesia. Located at the junction of the Indian Ocean and the Straits of Malacca, Aceh was in its golden age as a major transit port for East-West trade by Islamic merchants. The author of the chronicle is unknown, but compared to travelogues and reports written by Westerners, it is one of the few records written in Malay, and is therefore considered a valuable historical resource for learning about the history and culture of not only Aceh but the Malay world.

インドネシア，スマトラ島北端のアチェにおいて，スルタン･イスカンダル･ムダの時代(1607‐36)に編まれた年代記。インド洋とマラッカ海峡の接点に位置するアチェは，当時イスラム商人による東西貿易の一大中継港として，その黄金時代を迎えていた。年代記の著者は特定されていないが，西欧人による旅行記や報告書に対して，数少ないマレー語による記録であることから，アチェに限らずマレー世界の歴史と文化を知るうえでの貴重な史料とされている。
