It is a member of the Rhinoceros family of the Perissodactyla order of the Mammalia class. It is found from the Assam region of India to the wetlands of Nepal. It has only one horn on its nose, and is sometimes called the one-horned rhinoceros. It is 1.7 to 1.9 meters tall, and its skin is thick and has armor-like folds. For this reason, it is also known as the armored rhinoceros. It eats reed leaves, twigs, and other vegetation. There are only a small number of them living in the wild, with an estimated 2,400 (2002). [Iya Katsunori] [Reference] | |Distributed from northern India to Nepal. Has one horn.
