A type of kariginu (hunting clothes) worn by lower-ranking samurai. It was made of white cloth, so it was also written as "shirobari." It was also worn by people without rank or position who were assigned to various government offices, shrines, and stations under the Ritsuryo system and performed miscellaneous tasks, as well as by servants such as umbrella bearers, shoe bearers, and mouth bearers of various households, and so they were also called "hakucho" (white samurai). 下級武士の着用する狩衣 (かりぎぬ) の一種。白の布子張であったので「白張」とも書いた。また,律令制の諸官司,神社,駅 (うまや) などに配属されて雑務を行う無位無官の人や,諸家の傘持,沓持,口取など仕丁がこれを着たところから,彼らを白丁 (「はくてい」ともいう) ともいった。白丁から官途についても主典 (さかん) にまでしか進めなかった。
