Born May 3, 1869. Older brother of Iwa Genroku. Studied under Koeber. After working as a lecturer at the Higher Normal School, he became a professor at First Higher School, teaching philosophy and German. Known as a famous professor, he is said to have been the model for Professor Hirota in Natsume Soseki's Sanshiro. Died July 14, 1941. Age 73. Born in Satsuma (Kagoshima Prefecture).
