Japanese: ガチョウ(鵞鳥) - ガチョウ（英語表記）goose

Anser anser is a domestic fowl belonging to the order Anatidae. There are two types: the European Anser anser and the Chinese Anser cygnoides . The former is a domesticated greylag goose from Egypt around 2800 BCE, and the main varieties are the Embden (native to Germany, white, weighing 8.0-9.0 kg) (illustration) and the Toulouse (native to France, gray-brown, weighing 9.0-12.0 kg) (illustration). The latter is a domesticated swan goose from China around 2000 BCE, and is called the Chinese goose. It has a hump at the base of its beak and weighs 4.5-5.5 kg, making it slightly smaller than the European varieties.

ガンカモ目に属する家禽（かきん）で，ヨーロッパ系のものAnser anserと中国系のものA.cygnoidesがある。前者はハイイロガンをエジプトで前2800年ころに家禽化したもので，主要品種としてはエムデン種Embden(ドイツ原産，白色，体重8.0～9.0kg)（イラスト）やトゥールーズ種Toulouse(フランス原産，灰褐色，体重9.0～12.0kg)（イラスト）がある。後者はサカツラガンを中国で前2000年ころに馴化（じゆんか）したものでシナガチョウと呼ばれ，くちばしの基部にこぶがあり，体重は4.5～5.5kgでヨーロッパ系の品種よりやや小型である。
