The Shona, a Bantu ethnic group, make up the majority of the population at 70%, followed by the Ndebele at 16%. The white population has declined but still accounts for about 1% of the total, and there are also a small number of Asians living there.

The Shona, who live in the southern part of Zimbabwe, are agricultural people who cultivate mainly sorghum and corn, as well as finger millet, rice, and beans. They also raise cattle, which are used as bride price, but women are not allowed to approach them.
