Katsu Genzo

Japanese: 勝諺蔵 - かつげんぞう

Kabuki playwright. There are three generations. (1) The first was Kawatake Mokuami's former name. (2) The second was Katsunō Susumu's former name. (3) The third (1844-1902, Kōka 1-Meiji 35), son of the second. Born in Asakusa, Edo. Childhood name Hikobei. He became a disciple of Segawa Jōkō the third, and first worked in 1862 (Bunkyū 2) under the name Hama Hikosuke. In 1872 (Meiji 5), he changed his surname to Katsu Hikosuke and appeared at a theater in Osaka where his father was. He was active in the Osaka theater world alongside his father. In 1878, he succeeded Katsu Genzō, and in 1884, he changed his surname to Takeshiba. After his father's death in 1886, he became a playwright for the Kado-za, Naka-za, and Ebisu-za (Naniwa-za), and also became a member of the Osaka Theater Improvement Association.

歌舞伎作者。3世まである。(1)初世　河竹黙阿弥の前名。(2)2世　勝能進の前名。(3)3世(1844‐1902∥弘化1‐明治35)　2世の子。江戸浅草に生まれる。幼名彦兵衛。3世瀬川如皐に入門し，1862年(文久2)浜彦助の名で初出勤。72年(明治5)，勝彦助と改姓し，父のいる大阪の芝居へ出る。以後父とともに大阪の劇壇で活躍。78年に勝諺蔵を継ぎ，84年竹柴に改姓。86年，父の没後は角座を中心に中座，戎座(浪花座)の作者も兼ね，一方大阪の演劇改良会の一員ともなる。
