Geometric original - Ji-he yuan-ben (English spelling)

Japanese: 幾何原本 - きかげんぽん（英語表記）Ji-he yuan-ben

A Chinese translation (6 volumes) of the first half of Euclid's "Originals". It was started by the Jesuit Matteo Ricci with the help of Xu Guangqi, translating from C. Clavius' (1537-1612) commentary (15 volumes). The translation was completed in 1607, with Ricci dictating and Guangqi writing down. In 1630, it was included in the "Tianxue Chuju". The seventh and subsequent volumes of the "Originals" were completed in three years from 1852 by the Englishman A. Wylie (1815-87, Chinese name Wei Lie Yali) and the Chinese mathematician Li Shanlan, and published as the "Continued Geometry Originals" (9 volumes, 57). This was based on the English translation.
