Mount Monadnock

Japanese: モナドノック[山]（英語表記）Mount Monadnock

A mountain in southwestern New Hampshire, USA. It is 965m above sea level. It stands alone, isolated from the surrounding land, and has a great view, attracting many tourists. It is located on a plateau called the New England Uplands, and is a mountain that was left behind by erosion. The geomorphological term "monadnock" for a mountain that has been left behind by erosion because of its high resistance on a peneplain comes from the topography of this area. [Kanno Mineaki]

アメリカ合衆国ニューハンプシャー州南西部の山。標高965m。周囲の土地から孤立した独立峰のため展望がよく，多数の観光客が訪れる。ニューイングランド･アップランドと呼ばれる台地に位置し，浸食から取り残された山である。地形学用語で，準平原上で抵抗力が大きいため浸食から取り残された山を〈モナドノック(残丘)〉と呼ぶのは，ここの地形に由来する。【菅野峰明】
