A crime of injuring another person through negligence. A fine of up to 300,000 yen or a minor penalty. It is a crime that requires a complaint (Article 209 of the Penal Code). Those who commit crimes due to professional negligence or gross negligence are punished with imprisonment of up to five years or a fine of up to 500,000 yen (Article 211 of the Penal Code). In this case, it is not a crime that requires a complaint. If the injuries in a car accident are minor, the punishment may be waived depending on the circumstances. In addition, those who injure others through dangerous driving resulting in death or injury (Article 208-2), which was added to the Penal Code in 2001, will be sentenced to imprisonment of up to 15 years.
