Pilgrimage to Mount Iwaki

...The annual festival is held on the first day of the eighth month of the lunar calendar. It is called "Iwakisan-mairi" or "Oyama-sande" and involves visiting the shrine in white clothing and carrying a sacred wand, then ascending to the inner shrine at the top of the mountain while beating flutes and drums and chanting. In early modern times, the legend of Iwaki Hangan, or the tale of Anju and Zushio, became associated with this tradition and became very popular.
