Polar Urals

The Ural Mountains begin in the north on the Arctic coast and end in the south at the line of the Ural River, which crosses the cities of Orsk and Orenburg from east to west, but extend north to Novaya Zemlya Island and south to the hills of northern Kazakhstan. From north to south, the Urals are divided into (1) the Polar Urals, (2) the Parapolar Urals, (3) the Northern Urals, (4) the Middle Urals, and (5) the Southern Urals. The highest point is Mount Narodnaya (1,894 m) in the Polar Urals, and more than 140 glaciers can be seen on many of the peaks in this area.
