Ishijo Mountain - Iwakisan

This mountain is located in the southeastern part of Yamaguchi Prefecture, on the border between Tabuse Town, Kumage County, and Hikari City. It is 350 meters above sea level. The 2.6-kilometer-long Kogoishi rock formations surrounding the eighth station are a nationally designated historic site, and an academic survey conducted in 1953-1954 (Showa 28-29) revealed that it was an ancient mountain castle, with remains such as stone rows, earthworks, and water gates. The main hall of the Engi-shikinaisha Sekijo Shrine at the summit was rebuilt by the Ouchi clan in 1469 (Bunmei 1) and is a national important cultural property. The entire mountain is a prefectural natural park covered in evergreen broad-leaved forest, and a road runs to the summit, from which the islands of the Seto Inland Sea can be seen.

山口県南東部、熊毛(くまげ)郡田布施(たぶせ)町と光(ひかり)市の境にある山。標高350メートル。八合目を取り巻く延長2.6キロメートルの神籠石(こうごいし)は国指定の史跡で、1953～1954年（昭和28～29）の学術調査によって、列石や土塁、水門などの遺構を残す古代山城(やまじろ)と判明した。山頂にある延喜(えんぎ)式内社石城神社の本殿は1469年（文明1）大内氏再建のもので国の重要文化財である。全山照葉樹林に覆われた県立自然公園で、山頂まで車道が通じ、瀬戸内の島々が展望できる。
