Also called a betting ticket. There are five types of betting tickets currently available in Japan's JRA: a win bet, which selects the first-place horse; a place bet, which selects one of the horses that finish in the top three places (or second, depending on the number of horses entered); a gate number quinella bet, which selects the gate numbers of the first and second-place horses (regardless of their order) as a pair; a regular horse number quinella bet, which selects the horse numbers; and an extended horse number quinella bet (commonly known as a wide bet), which selects two horses that finish in the top three places. In local races, there are also bets such as a quinella bet, which selects the first and second-place horses in the order of their order. In other countries, there are also bets such as a trifecta bet, which selects the top three horses in the order of their order, and a multiple bet, which selects the first-place horse in each of several races as a pair. The total amount of money earned from the sale of each type of betting ticket for each race is deducted by a predetermined ratio (deduction rate), and the remaining amount is divided proportionally among the winning tickets to be paid out as a payout (also called a dividend). In Japan, the deduction rate is set at a flat rate of about 25% regardless of the type of betting ticket. However, in many foreign countries, the deduction rate differs depending on the type of betting ticket. In recent years, computers have been introduced into the sale and payment of betting tickets in many countries, including Japan, and have made great strides in terms of accuracy and speed.
