...In 1971, BP lost its production facilities in Libya through nationalization, and in 1973 the first oil crisis occurred. Then, in 1979, the Iranian Revolution and the second oil crisis that followed were more severe than those of the other majors, since BP held 40% of the interests in the Iranian Consortium (created by the majors in 1954). However, in recent years, the company has shifted its main operations to the North Sea and Prudhoe Bay in Alaska, and its main oil fields are the Forties oil field in the North Sea (production began in 1975), the Magnus oil field (1983), and the Kuparuk oil field in Alaska (1983).
