Kuwaiti Muslims are slightly more Sunnites than Muslims, with Shiites accounting for 30-40%.

On Faylaka Island, located a few kilometers offshore, ruins of the Dilmun culture from around 2000 BC have been discovered, and it is known that culture flourished and commercial activity took place on the island from that time until the Seleucid period. Kajima, on the north side of Kuwait Bay, is also said to be the site of an ancient battlefield where a battle between Muslim and Persian armies took place in 632.
