This definition was made based on the fact that when a standard atmospheric pressure of 101,325 Pa is measured with a mercury column, it indicates a height of 0.76 m. Historically, it was defined as the pressure at which a mercury column with a density of 13,595.10 kg/ ^m3 indicates 1 m in height under standard gravitational acceleration. The ratio between the old and new units is 1.000000142.
