This refers to a heavy feeling as if food is stagnating in the stomach. In many cases, there is a disorder in gastric emptying (ejection from the stomach to the duodenum). Organically, this can occur when gastric ulcers, stomach cancer, etc. cause pyloric stenosis, making it difficult to empty the stomach, when gastric motility is reduced due to ulcers or gastritis, when the stomach is under pressure from surrounding organs such as the intestines, gallbladder, liver, or pancreas, or when gastric motility is suppressed by central nervous system influences such as stress. It is also often seen in cases of so-called gastroptosis, gastric atony, which is a decrease in stomach tone and a decrease in the ability to expel food.
