Jodo-ji Temple

Japanese: 浄土寺 - じょうどじ
Jodo-ji Temple
This is the head temple of the Hiroshima Shingon religious organization in Onomichi City, Hiroshima Prefecture. It is said to have been founded by Prince Shotoku. The monk Josho restored the old temple, which had fallen into disrepair, and held a memorial service in 1306, but it burned down in 1325 and was rebuilt shortly thereafter. The main hall was rebuilt in 1327 and is a national treasure for its eclectic style architecture that makes extensive use of large Buddha statues. The two-storied pagoda was rebuilt in 1329 and is a national treasure for its large size, good shape, and excellent details. In addition, there is the Amida hall and a teahouse (Rotekian), which is rare in the Chugoku region. The temple's collection includes an eleven-faced Kannon statue from the early Heian period and a statue of Prince Shotoku from the Kamakura period.

Jodo Temple

This Shingon Buddhist temple is located in Ono City, Hyogo Prefecture. It is one of the temples built in various locations by Chogen, who restored the temple buildings of Todaiji Temple. Currently, the Jodo Hall and Yakushi Hall stand facing each other from east to west. The Jodo Hall was built in 1192 and is designated as a national treasure. It is a masterpiece with the strongest Song Dynasty style among the Daibutsu-style buildings and a rich spatial composition. It houses the Amida Triad (national treasure), said to have been created by Kaikei.
