…In 771 (Hōki 2), a woman from Takakusa County, Jōjō-nari and her family, were given the surname Inaba, and the Inaba clan was established. They also gained the status of kuni-no-miyatsuko under the ritsuryo system. The clan worshipped the god Amenohohi-no-mikoto in Fukui, Tottori Prefecture, and in the mid-Heian period, they competed fiercely for power with the newly emerging powerful Ihokube clan, who both were given the rank of Shosanmi and worshipped Ube Shrine, the Ichinomiya of Inaba Province. In the late Heian period, the Inaba clan, together with the Ihokube clan and others, held the title of suke and occupied a central position among the Inaba provincial government officials. …
