A group of ritual ruins on Okinoshima Island in Fukuoka Prefecture. Okinoshima is an isolated island in the Genkai Sea, and is home to Okitsumiya, one of the three shrines that make up Munakata Shrine, and has been known as the island of the gods since ancient times. The shrine is located on the southwestern slope of the island. Three excavation surveys were carried out between 1954 and 1971, and approximately 80,000 items were discovered, including bronze mirrors, ornaments, horse equipment, stone imitations, metal models, containers, and tools from the 4th to 9th centuries. Many of the items are of excellent quality, and there are also relics that tell the story of exchanges between Japan and China, such as gilt-bronze dragon heads and Tang sancai.
