EPS - EPS

Earnings per share. An abbreviation of earnings per share, it is one of the indicators used in stock price analysis. It is calculated by "net income for the current period divided by number of shares issued." For example, if net income is 1 billion yen and there are 100 million shares, EPS is 10 yen. It indicates how much profit is available for dividends, and is one of the indicators that shareholders are most interested in. It is meaningless to compare with other companies that have a different number of shares, so it is used when comparing with the company's own figures from the previous year. If the EPS value is expected to increase from the previous period, the stock price is likely to rise, and if it is expected to decrease, it is likely to fall.

1株当り利益。earnings per shareの略で、株価分析に用いられる指標の一つである。「当期純利益÷発行済み株式数」で算出する。たとえば純利益が10億円で株式数が1億株であれば、EPSは10円となる。配当可能な利益がどれくらいあるかを示すもので、株主がもっとも大きな関心をもつ指標の一つといえる。株数が異なる他社との比較には意味がなく、自社の前年の値と比較する際に用いる。EPSの値が前期より増えると予想される場合、株価は上がりやすく、減少する見通しの場合には下がりやすい。
